More efficient, effective hand sanitizer in place across Saskatchewan

A new product roll-out means hand sanitization is more efficient than ever across Saskatchewan, ensuring the safety and wellbeing of health-care employees, physicians, patients, and others.

Nearly 30,000 new GOJO hand sanitizer units have been installed in more than 245 Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) facilities over the last year, replacing the previously used dispensers. The devices dispense Purell hand sanitizer, which is manufactured by GOJO.

Crucially, only one pump of the new sanitizer is needed to adequately sanitize hands, reducing the amount of product needed and improving the efficiency of sanitization. Purell is an alcohol-based gel that is concentrated enough to be endorsed for use in health-care environments, fragrance-free, and does not dry out or damage the skin. Only one pump is needed to meet Health Canada’s standards for disinfection in a health-care environment, ensuring that health-care workers, patients, and family members are adequately protected.

This follows the expiration of the previous sanitization contract in late 2023. In seeking a new provider, 3sHealth and the SHA worked with a variety of stakeholder groups within the SHA to ensure the best option won out. This includes Clinical Services, Infection Prevention and Control (which also closely analyzed the products), Environmental Services, Facilities, and Supply Chain.

3sHealth also assisted the SHA in planning and managing the rollout of the new product to facilities all over Saskatchewan.
