Planning your retirement? You have options when it comes to your benefits
Aug 08, 2023
When you reach your retirement date, your employer notifies the Employee Benefits team.
We assemble a package that outlines your retirement options, and we mail it to your home address. You are responsible to pay the monthly premium for the options you choose.
Depending on your years of service and age when you retire, you may be eligible to receive:
Life insurance
- Group Life continuation on early retirement – If you retire before turning 65, you may continue all or a portion of your existing life insurance up to age 65 at the same rate that you pay while you are working.
- Retired plan member life insurance benefit of $5,000 – You may receive a certificate payable to your named beneficiaries upon your death. 3sHealth issues a certificate to you at no cost.
- Group Life conversion privilege – You may convert up to $250,000 of your basic or optional life insurance to an individual policy with Canada Life. You must retire on or before your 65th birthday, and you must apply within 31 days of your retirement date. No medical questions or medical exams are required.
Extended Health Care and Dental
- Eligible plan members may elect to join the Retiree Health and Dental Plan provided through Group Medical Services. No medical questions or medical exams are required if you apply within 90 days of your retirement.
